About Stephen Tillett

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Stephen A. Tillett learned the value of faith, hard work, and integrity from his parents. He’s a proud graduate of St. John’s College High School, earned his degree in Government from American University, and his Master of Divinity from Howard University School of Divinity.

For more than two decades, Stephen has led Asbury Broadneck United Methodist Church in Annapolis, building bridges across faiths, neighborhoods, and generations. A retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and former Chaplain at Arlington National Cemetery, he has supported our nation’s heroes and their families through some of life’s most challenging moments.

Beyond the pulpit, Stephen has been a leading advocate for equity, education, and opportunity for all — serving as President of the Anne Arundel County NAACP, Clergy Co-Chair of Anne Arundel Connecting Together (ACT), and Tri-Chair of the Maryland Poor People’s Campaign. His work continues to bring communities together to create solutions that uplift every resident of District 32.

What Others Are Saying…

~  Progressive Maryland

I have known Reverend Stephen Tillet for about 20 years. During that time, he joined me in school meetings and offered me his perspective on the issues. I have been to his Church. He partnered with and I am thankful for his partnership with the Anne Arundel Public School System and me on educational equity and transforming our schools to meet the needs of ALL children. I have learned a few things about Reverend Tillet. He is a strong leader. He hews to the moral high ground. He works collaboratively but will not compromise his values. He has worked tirelessly and done impressive work in our communities and will do so in our entire State. It is because of his integrity and his focus on the right work and good trouble that I, Kevin Maxwell, former AACPS Superintendent, offer my endorsement for Reverend Stephen Tillet for the State Senate Seat in Maryland District 32.

~ Dr. Kevin Maxwell, Former Anne Arundel County Public Schools Superintendent

I’ve had the pleasure of working with him in many areas from honoring seniors, advancing justice reform and upholding civil rights.

One of the closest opportunities and dearest to my heart was having the opportunity to work closely with him on the Juneteenth Project that I was the visionary and founder of. Without his guidance and support it would not have been the success that it was. He was instrumental with support in assisting us to carry it to fruition.

Steve Tillett is loyal, dedicated, determined and result driven. When he sees a need he will assess the situation, determine the need and establish a plan. I love his passion for youth by given them opportunities that would not normally be given to them and never afraid to open doors.

Based on just a few of the things listed this is why I am endorsing Stephen Tillett as the Democratic Candidate for State Senate for District 32.

~ Phyllis Tee Adams, Visionary Founder of Annapolis Juneteenth & Community Leader

I am taking a quick break from my social media sabbatical because this is very important!
In this age of what I would consider toxic politics, I am inspired by the tireless work of folks on the state and local levels.
I was delighted to find out that a treasured friend and clergy colleague Steve Tillett (Pastor T) is running for Maryland State Senate! This man is a born leader. Decades as a Methodist church pastor; instrumental in the creation of Anne Arundel Connecting Together; known and respected by countless people in our community but somehow makes each one (myself included) feel special!
I am proud to voice my thrilled support of him in this next chapter and I hope you will learn more about him and VOTE IN JUNE!
